Zoning approves 1661 application
The Zoning Board approved an application by the 1661 Inn, allowing it to change an existing laundry/storage room into a rental inn/home.
The 1661 Inn is located on Spring Street (plat 7, lots 6 and 7). The facility was required to apply for a special use permit from the board for this change. The Zoning Board unanimously approved the application at its Monday, Nov. 25 meeting.
According to Draper, the total amount of rental rooms on the property will not increase, as rooms in another guest house will be combined to make ones.
“Currently we have four rooms with shared baths. They're tiny, so we're changing them to two rooms with private baths,” said Draper, speaking of the other guest house.
Also at the meeting, the Zoning Board held preliminary reviews on two applications. The first was an application for a variance by Charles and Tobee McMellon to construct an addition to their existing single-family house off West Side Road (plat 16, lot 44-1).
The Spring House Hotel on Spring Street (plat 16, lot 84-6) applied for a special use permit to create a 20-seat restaurant in a barn structure next to the hotel. This restaurant would be open during the winter when the main hotel is closed.
There are formal hearings regarding the above applications scheduled for the Jan. 22 Zoning Board meeting.
Also, four hearings have been continued to the Jan. 22 meeting:
-An application by Lynn and Martha Temple to construct a detached garage on their Spring Street property (plat 8, lot 134).
-An application by Howard Donnelly to construct a deck on his South East Road property (plat 8, lot 40).
-Two applications regarding Payne's Harbor View Inn on Beach Ave (plat 5, lot 111). One is an appeal of a notice of violation, the other an application for a special use permit.
