Wall Street Journal interviews Baldwin

As part of its coverage of United Healthcare’s action last month of dropping physicians and practices in ten states, The Wall Street Journal recently interviewed Block Island Health Services Executive Director Barbara Baldwin. The Journal was interested in what appears to have been the healthcare giant’s only reinstatement in the country.

A story in the online Journal on November 16, 2013 says, “At least one axed practice has successfully appealed. After the only two doctors on Block Island, 10 miles off the Rhode Island coast, both received termination notices, their clinic complained that the 25 affected elderly patients would have to take a plane or a ferry to find in-network care.”

The international paper quoted Baldwin as saying that a United Health official informed her by phone that “the practice would be reinstated.” Baldwin later emailed The Block Island Times copies of the letters saying that Dr. Jan Miller, Dr. Peter Baute and nurse practitioner Liz Dyer were being reinstated.
