Hurricane Sandy rolled up the east coast and hit Block Island hard, with pounding surf and strong hurricane force winds downing trees and destroying parts of Corn Neck Rd., Old Harbor, Spring Street and the State Beach House.
Tuesday, Oct. 30 3:15pm: Governor Lincoln Chafee, Lt. Gov Elizabeth Roberts, Department of Environmental Management director Janet Coit and US senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse have just left the island after touring to inspect storm damage.
