Town Financial Meeting is Monday, May 6
The Town Financial Meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 6 at 7 p.m. at the Block Island School. The meeting sets the tax rate for town residents for 2014.
A municipal budget of $12,141,327 will be presented to voters, who will contribute $8,612,958, which is right at the maximum 4 percent tax levy allowed by state law.
The Block Island School has asked for $4.5 million in funding, a $71,432 increase over the current appropriation. Town administrative costs are budgeted at approximately $1 million. The library is budgeted at $468,624. The Medical Center is seeking $123,800 in funding from the town.
Voters will be asked to act on a $1 million bond for upgrades to the Sewer District and a $1 million for affordable housing for the Block Island Housing Board.

This article has been corrected from the version that appeared in print May 4. The meeting will be held at the school, not the Town Hall as previously stated. Also, the school was incorrectly reported as asking for a $100,000 increase over last year.
