WALK THE WALLS

The rolling fields of the Martin Lots on West Side Road are an example of the geological formation of the Block Island topography at the end of the last ice age about 9000 years ago when the edge of the glacier was melting and depositing clay, sand and rock on what became Block Island. Walking the Walls of the four Martin Lots is a unique opportunity to experience the topography of the agricultural fields that almost completely covered Block Island and were farmed from the late 1600’s to the early 20th century. Meet at the corner of West Side Road and Old Mill Road. Walking the Walls takes about 45 minutes. Sponsored by The Nature Conservancy and Block Island Conservancy.
