The joys of iceboating
Islander Sven Risom sent in this dispatch:
We’re often asked, “What is it like to live on the island in the winter?” That is when we start to smile. While we have only lived here full time for five years, it’s in the winter when the island really comes to life for us — whether walking with the dogs on the beach or through the Greenway trails or catching a sail on the ice.
The island has a way of bringing you closer to the land, water and people this time of year. Although we enjoy our quiet and time alone, I would like to thank Mark, Champ, Bill, Ed and all the other iceboaters for introducing me to the island’s hard waters. By the way, I am now addicted! I’m not sure how, but there will be at least one more iceboat on the island soon.
There is nothing like a sunset sail and the North Light to make for a perfect week.
