Telemedicine is up and running
Tracy Fredericks, case worker for the Block Island Mental Health Task Force, announced this week that the telemedicine program long in the planning officially initiated services on January 11. The program allows island residents seeking to connect with mainland mental health professionals the opportunity to do so via a computer hook-up. The first facility available to the island public is at the Harbor Church, and a second location will be ready at the Block Island Medical Center in early February.
The program has been established through efforts of the task force and physicians from Brown University and Butler Hospital in Providence. Currently, session times are set for Wednesday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Interested residents can call Fredericks at (207) 229-6349 to schedule an appointment. She has already scheduled several sessions.
“We first discuss the way it works, and then take care of the preliminary paper work,” says Fredericks. The service is completely confidential. People should feel free to call or email Fredericks with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
