Transits and a work crew have already been spotted on Corn Neck Road measuring distances in the storm damaged portions of that street. Town Manager Nancy Dodge said work by Northern Construction Service LLC to restore Corn Neck and Spring Street is supposed to begin Saturday, November 17. It will stop for the holidays, and then resume. She was told by the state Department of Transportation that Northern Construction will keep the access to the Beachead Restaurant open for the weekend and Thanksgiving.

Charles St. Martin, Spokesman for the DOT, said that the contract calls for work to be done by Dec. 15, but the actual expectation is closer to the end of the year.

“This is very fast track for us to put out an emergency contract like this,” St. Martin said. “It’s a big interest of the DOT to get this started as soon as possible.”

Many technical details from the DOT on the road restoration are still lacking, said Dodge. However, she was told that, at least on Corn Neck Road, there will be one foot of pavement beyond the white line and then four feet of grass followed by dunes.
