Public hearing on Interstate
The state Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has scheduled a public hearing on the Interstate Navigation draft agreement at Town Hall for Thursday, April 4. According to the PUC website, the meeting is scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m.
The agreement, which was crafted between Interstate and the Division of Public Utilities and Carriers, was announced at a Town Council meeting on March 4. According to the proposal, the commuter cards, which provide discounts to the island’s year-round residents, will be kept. Freight rates will increase by 34 percent across the board. Vehicle rates will also decrease. If the agreement is approved by the PUC, it will go into effect on May 24.
