Officers receive promotionsSergeant Joe DeMatteo and Lieutenant Paul Deane
Police Chief Vincent Carlone began the Wednesday, Oct. 17. Town Council meeting with some “positive” news.
Carlone announced that two New Shoreham Police officers had received promotions: Joe DeMatteo has been promoted to sergeant, and Paul Deane has been promoted to lieutenant.
“What we have here is two officers that never call out sick, that do anything I ask them to do on their days off,” said Carlone. “This is a rarity today — you check on the other side to see if you can get that on the mainland. I’m very proud of them.”
Carlone presented the new rank to each officer, and gave accolades to each.
Carlone said of Deane: “Paul has a wide expertise — he’s got a very photographic memory, he’s an expert with computers, he’s our firearms expert and he’s our DUI expert.”
Regarding DeMatteo, Carlone said: “He is very positive. He always participates in a lot of alarm calls. He’s does a whole host of things with our reserve in training, and he’s been really helpful to me."
