After deliberating for 35 minutes in closed session on Monday, Aug. 25, members of the Block Island Health Services board voted to make an offer to a physician candidate for the post being vacated by Dr. Janice Miller.

Board president Bob Fallon announced the board was following the recommendation of the Search Committee.

The applicant, Fallon said , was board certified, associated with a major hospital and was experienced in emergency care and is not being named at this time.

Five members of the Search Committee — Chair Al Casazza, Cindy Baute, Nancy Greenaway, Naomi Kerest and Rob Sigman — were present to make the recommendation, which was done in closed session.

Fallon said the board was in the process of developing a contract at this time.  He added the process might take a month to complete.
