Suzanne Cassels Wells, 92, an artist and year-round resident of Block Island for many years, died April 4, 2014, after a long illness.

Mrs. Wells was born in Worcester, Mass., in 1921. She received an M.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design and was an active artist her entire life. She was a member of The Spring Street Gallery and Saint Andrews Catholic Church.

Suzy’s parents met at the Spring House shortly after World War I and Suzy spent summers on the Island throughout her early life. When she retired in the early 1980s she moved permanently to Block Island.

Mrs. Wells is survived by four children: Louis Wells of Houston, Texas; Kate Wells Blackwell of Middleburg, Virginia; Anthony Wells of Fairfax, Virginia, and Christopher Wells of Sterling, Virginia. Joan Wells Shafer, a daughter, died in 2006. Mrs. Wells is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A service will be held at Block Island Cemetery on June 14 at 1 p.m.  A gathering of friends and family will be held at Spring Street Gallery after the service.
