North Light Fibers honored
North Light Fibers’ principal Karyn Logan, pictured, accepted this year’s Joan Abrams Award that was presented by Betty and Fraser Lang, publishers of The Block Island Times, as well as Justin Abrams and Rita Draper, husband and daughter of Joan Abrams. North Light Fibers, which manufactures yarn products, opened three years ago. Absent from the meeting were company founders Sven and Laura Risom, who were traveling.
“Our choice was somewhat unconventional this year. Our point was to put the spotlight on a business that is a new launch, is year-round, creates jobs and is focused on expanding the shoulder season,” said Fraser Lang in his prefatory remarks. “If we are to be a viable year-round community, we must generate year-round jobs. This selection is a vote for what can be done and is meant to inspire others.” — Lars Trodson
