No local bids entered for beach renovation projectInfrastructure Committee formed to assess town needs
With work on the roof replacement at the town pavilion underway, Town Manager Nancy Dodge is looking ahead to renovations planned for the Fred Benson Town Beach.
However, Dodge reported to the Town Council at its Wednesday, May 1 meeting, that despite the fact that eight of nine bid packages for the work had been picked up, there were no bidders for the project. This surprised members of the Town Council, particularly that none of the local contractors bid.
Dodge found a builder on the mainland, C & L Builders, that was able to do the project. The Council voted unanimously to allow Dodge to award the bid to C & L.
Lack of bidders might be one more issue the newly formed Town of New Shoreham Infrastructure Committee might address. After a presentation by Councilor Chris Warfel, the vote to form that committee was unanimous. Up to five or six volunteers are now going to be sought to advise the public works director/town manager on facility assessment and needs. Warfel advised the committee it will need to develop a methodology of assessment and costing that is consistent across all facilities.
