New tick-borne disease discovered
The Patriot Ledger reports that researchers have discovered a new illness, similar to Lyme disease and carried by the deer tick.
It's caused by the bacteria Borrelia miyamotoi, has similar symptoms to Lyme with the addition of relapsing fevers, and it can be treated with the same antibiotics used for Lyme.
Evidence from the disease has been found in 18 patients in New England and New York, according to the Yale School of Public Medicine.
