Nelson Holmes, Sr.
On Jan. 12, 2014 Nelson Holmes, Sr., of Bradford, R.I., was reunited in heaven with the love of his life, Betty Holmes. They are once again cruising in the Fairlane convertible.
Nelson leaves behind seven children. Nelson Jr. of Oklahoma, Barbara Cannon (John) of Pennsylvania, Deborah Holmes, also of Pennsylvania, Lori Corcoran (William), Christine Irwin (Carol), Melinda Watts (Michael) and Joseph Davis. And his beloved four-legged friend, Bassett Hound Abbey.
He was predeceased by his brother Douglas Holmes and is also survived by his mother Phyllis Holmes, his sister Pam Glen and husband Stewart (Howie), Sabra Glen Pokraka (Joe), also of Block Island and Matthew Glen (Paula) of Westerly and Block Island, R.I., and his brother Carlton Holmes (Carol) of Florida. He is survived also by his first wife Ruthanne Simpson of Pennsylvania, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Nelson had a love of nature, NASCAR, hunting, and classic cars — and not necessarily in that order. He lived on Block Island from the late 1970s until the mid 1980s. He was good with his hands. He could fix anything that had an engine. He owned and operated Nelson’s Small Engine Repair of Bradford, R.I. for many years.
Nelson was a private man, so his children, grandchildren nieces and nephews, will honor him with a private memorial service.
