Narwhals: Arctic Whales in a Melting World
On Thursday, April 3, at 7:00 PM at the Island Free Library, Natural History writer Todd McLeish will discuss his book, Narwhals: Arctic Whales in a Melting World, about the northernmost whale on the planet and the one most threatened by global warming. Its seven-foot long spiral tusk—which helped to spawn the unicorn myth and which has caused a heated disagreement about its purpose—has created a genuine sense of wonder and mythology about this amazing animal. Todd went to Greenland in 2008 and 2010 to be with the Inuit people and based the book on his experiences. He will discuss the many questions and curiosities that surround the sea unicorn.
