Narragansett parking for B.I. residents expands2014 placards are now on sale
State Parking Lot G in Narragansett is an essential parking area for Block Island residents, property owners, and tourists.
This parking area is operated by the R.I. Department of Environmental Management’s (DEM) Division of Coastal Resources. Motorists can purchase seasonal parking placards for long-term parking, providing residents an opportunity to leave a vehicle on the mainland for their convenience.
DEM staff has issued a notice that many cars in Lot G are parking in a manner that takes up more space than necessary, therefore limiting the total number of spaces available to placard holders and daily parking patrons. To remedy this issue and make it more convenient for placard holders, DEM staff is in the process of putting up grading stakes, properly delineating 9-foot (oversized) parking spaces throughout the lot.
By doing this, the DEM estimates that approximately 40 new spaces will be realized. DEM staff is asking motorists to park within the space between the new stakes so that State Parking Lot G can be utilized to its fullest potential at times of high volume.
Also, for the convenience of people who purchase seasonal parking placards every year, DEM is currently selling 2014 parking placards from the DEM Coastal Resources office in Galilee (Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) This will provide an opportunity for those who leave for the winter to purchase placards early.
If you have any questions regarding parking in Lot G or seasonal placard purchases, call the DEM Coastal Resources office at (401) 783-5551.
