Movie about Cape Wind project opens in Providence
"Cape Spin! An American Power Struggle'' opens Friday, Jan. 25, at the Cable Car Cinema, on South Main Street in Providence.
The premiere screening is at 7 p.m., to be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, as well as Providence Journal Editorial-Page Editor Robert Whitcomb; Cape Wind developer Jim Gordon; and M. Dawn King, a visiting assistant professor at the Center for Environmental Studies at Brown.
"Cape Spin" was directed by Robbie Gemmel and John Kirby.
"Cape Spin! An American Power Struggle" tells the story of the battle over America's controversial clean-energy project in Nantucket Sound. Cape Wind would be the U.S.'s first offshore windfarm if it had proceeded on schedule.
The Associated Press called the film "sober, lighthearted and even wacky," the Boston Phoenix called it "rollicking... a dizzying look into the deceptive world of political activism," while the Boston Globe called it "exasperating funny."
