Mohegan Café and Harbor Grill change hands
The Mohegan Café and Harbor Grill have a new owner: Marc Scortino, who has been the proprietor of Captain Nick’s since 2010. Scortino has succeeded former owner Mike Finnemore at both establishments.
Scortino said he’s “excited” about the coming season. “The offer came out of the blue after Labor Day last year,” he said, adding that he hadn’t really been thinking about expanding into the restaurant business. (Capt. Nick’s is a nightclub.)
No major changes to either place are planned, Scortino said. Dave Sniffen will remain as the kitchen manager and brewmeister at The Mohegan, and Scortino said he, along with his business partner and fiancé, Katie Simlick, have talked to the entire staff at the Mohegan and everyone will be coming back. “They’ve all been working there for some time,” he said.
Andy Brushett will stay on as kitchen manager at Harbor Grill, and patrons will still see Sharlene Worth at the front of the house. Scortino said he is going to try to give the Harbor Grill menu a little more identity. “We’ll put in some new items, and we’ll simplify and streamline the menu,” he said. The menu at the Mohegan may see some slight tweaks, he said, but no more than that.
Scortino said he’s been busy giving both restaurants a thorough cleaning before opening day. The Mohegan Café will open this month, on March 28, and the Harbor Grill will be open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
