Looking in at the club: Dance!
The club is bringing July to a close with several events that will end July on a good note and open August with excitement. On Tuesday, July 31, there will be a kids’ water barbecue, which the kids at the club always look forward to. “There will be a slip ‘n’ slide and a water balloon toss at the barbecue. I’ve gone to the water barbecue in past years, and even though I usually come home soaked, it’s a lot of fun!” says Kate Beinkampen, who attends the club.
Another round of Thursday night races, on August 2, will lead us into August with the familiar sailing racing routine. Shannan Smith, a sailing instructor at the club, explains that rigging starts at 5:30 p.m. and the first race begins at 6. “Races go until sunset and we encourage all 420 and keel boat sailors to come out and race.”
Finally, as a fun way to kick off the month of August, there will be the Block Island Club dance on August 3 for kids aged 10 and up, an event that always brings instructors and kids together. “The dance is a great night for the kids. The dance starts at 6 and the kids dance until sunset and take a lot of photos upstairs in the arts and crafts room. Some of the kids ask instructors to be their ‘dates’. Everyone always ends up having a great time,” tennis instructor Sam Taylor says.
One week memberships are available, as well as full summer memberships. For more information and details on membership, contact the club manager, Chris Bergen, at 466-5939. The Block Island Club is always excited to welcome new families.
