Land Trust news brief
The Land Trust is beginning to work on a plan for the Solviken Property on Corn Neck Road. The dilapidated building that sat on this property was torn down in May, but the property is conserved by the Land Trust and Block Island Conservancy.
At the July 8 meeting, Land Trust Chair Barbara MacMullan reported that she had previously met with the R.I. Coastal Resources Management Council (CMRC) and University of Rhode Island. The Land Trust hopes to partner with these groups to create an environmental education program.
Land Trust members looked at preliminary plans to build a new harbormaster shack on Plat 5, lot 69-7, which is owned by the Land Trust and located near the Boat Basin in New Harbor.
The Harbors Committee is considering building the shack, complete with bathrooms and showers. While Land Trust members seemed supportive of the idea, they said that they would want more details before they approve it. “There’s a history of co-operative behavior here,” said MacMullan. “I think that they should just keep us in the loop.”
Also, Land Trust Treasurer Barby Michel reported that the Land Trust earned $93,868 from the 3-percent property transfer fees in June.
