Internet blackout frustrates islanders
Internet service was back up for an unknown number of Verizon customers by mid-afternoon Thursday after an almost week-long blackout that was the topic of conversation all over the island.
According to Michele Cinquegrano, Regional Director of External Affairs for Verizon, service had been restored by 3 p.m. on Thursday, but she cautioned that if anyone was still experiencing problems should reboot their DSL modems or they call her office. Cinquegrano said the problem was due to a “wet underground cable and a DSL outage.” She did not have the authority to say how many customers were affected.
Anyone needing additional information can call Cinquegrano at (401) 525-2134.
