Hilse and Sullivan at Harbor Church Sept. 28
Organist Walter Hilse and vocalist Patricia Sullivan will give a special fall concert at the Harbor Church at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Walter Hilse is a renowned organist and composer who teaches at the Manhattan School of Music and plays at Redeemer Presbyterian and Saint Peter’s Lutheran churches in New York City. He has a Ph.D. in musicology from Columbia and studied piano, organ, and composition at Juilliard and in Paris. He has published 80 art songs, 20 anthems, a mass, Sabbath songs, and pieces for organ, piano, and ensembles.
Organ selections will comprise works by J. S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, and Walter Hilse.
Patricia Sullivan, married to Hilse, will perform a variety of songs, ranging from traditional folk to modern.
Sullivan and Hilse have had the pleasure of performing several times on Block Island. “Walter is an absolute master of the organ,” said island organist and piano teacher Carrie Todd. This concert is a Saturday edition of the Common Ground Coffeehouse, so soup and other refreshments will precede the concert beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission will be by voluntary donation for the performers.
