Hassinger mermaids go on saleProceeds go to B.I. Medical Center
Herman Hassinger’s well-known collection of mermaids is now on sale at the Aurora Gallery, and the proceeds of the sale will go toward the Block Island Medical Center.
The collection includes dozens of items, some cute, some kitschy, some elegant, some barely clothed, all rendered in various media: glass, ceramic, wood. Some are drawn and others are etched in glass.
The entire collection, as well as other works of art, will go on sale, starting with an opening on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m., and then run for another week. The Aurora Gallery is located above the Block Island Post Office.
There will also be artwork by Victor Mayes, Sally Pinney, and Gillian Stevens.
