Free energy audits and home improvements
South County Community Action is conducting free energy audits and home improvements in the following towns: South Kingstown, North Kingstown, Narragansett, Richmond, Hopkinton, Westerly, Charlestown, West Greenwich, Exeter and New Shoreham.
Free weatherization services are available to homeowners or renters in these communities. Please call to find out if your property qualifies. This program is available to homeowners if they meet income guidelines noted below.
Renters must have property owner’s written permission to weatherize the property. This program enables people to reduce their energy usage and costs by creating a more energy-efficient home.
Following the energy audit, a representative will assign licensed and insured local contractors to perform the work. This may include insulating attics, walls and basements, sealing drafty windows, weather-stripping doors and bulkheads. Your heating system and chimney may be evaluated, the refrigerator and freezer tested, and your light bulbs changed to energy efficient CFL bulbs — all of which will be done at no cost to the homeowner.
This program was established in 1976 when the state contracted with the local Community Action Agencies to conduct energy audits and coordinate weatherization services. Since then, thousands of local homeowners and renters have taken advantage of this opportunity that has not only saved them money but also reduced each home’s carbon footprint.
As our knowledge and understanding of the importance of energy conservation continues to advance, so does technology. Don’t wait until the cold weather returns. This year, turn your home into an energy smart, more comfortable place to live.
