Ecumenical Corner: God in human form
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
So writes the Apostle John at the beginning of his gospel about Jesus. He goes on to say that all things came into being through him.
It is, I think, important to remember these truths about our Savior Jesus Christ, especially at this time of year when the focus is so much on the baby Jesus lying in a manger. We need both images to begin to capture the wonder of what God did for us so long ago. The creator of the universe subjected himself to becoming fully human from conception to his death on the cross.
How all this came be is a great mystery understood only by God himself, but generation after generation of Christians have believed it to be true. So join with untold millions of Christians who celebrate with great joy the amazing events which heralded the entrance of God into the world in human form.
