Do you know about BIRA?
BIRA stands for the Block Island Residents' Association. We have been standing up for issues important to our members for years now. We gather information on these issues and disseminate it to all Block Islanders via the Block Island Times website, Facebook, and the BIRA website: bira02807.org, so they can make up their own minds on the questions facing our island. If you go to our website, you will see all of this information. You will see that we donate money from our memberships to Adult Education scholarships, Helping Hands' food pantry, the Deer Task Force, the Block Island School, etc. We work hand-in-hand with other community organizations, including the Deer Task Force, The Committee for the Great Salt Pond, and the Shellfish Commission. BIRA membership is open to all. When you become a member, your membership fee, and whatever donations you might add to it, go to support our important efforts on your behalf. If you would like to see what BIRA is all about, anyone may attend our meetings, which are on the third Saturday of each month at 9:15 a.m. in the sun room of Harbor Church. You may also email us, if there are any issues you'd like to see us address, at firstname.lastname@example.org. All comments are read by Bill Penn, our President, and shared at our meetings. We'd love it if you would join us!
