Dig into House and Garden show offeringsRescheduled to June 20
Homeowners and contractors: get your hammers, shovels and paintbrushes ready.
The second annual House and Garden (H&G) show will be held on Thursday, June 20, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m at The Sullivan House. With over 20 confirmed vendors, the show gives an opportunity to learn about new products and services.
The event is sponsored by United Builders Supply, The Block Island Times and The Sullivan House, and will feature live music, food, soft drinks and complimentary beer provided by Newport Storm. Live music will be performed by Virginia Dare. Admission is $10 at the door.
Don’t forget to bring your iPad either, for there will be live demonstrations of a high-speed internet service available on-island, called Exede.
“We’ll be geared and ready,” said Mark Gagnon, owner of South County Sound and Video. “We’ll be bringing in an Exede satellite dish and hooking it up.”
If H&G attendees bring a laptop, cell phone, or tablet, they can use the satellite’s wireless signal.
“It’s big because it’s high speed internet on the island,” said Gagnon.
On a less technology-oriented note, there will be several outdoor-focused businesses attending the show, such as DVL Landscape and Bartlett Tree experts.
Jeremy Thurber from Bartlett Tree Experts said that he will be talking about his services including tick suppression, soil management and pest management.
Thurber is hoping to do some networking on island. “I want to meet some more of the landscapers,” he said.
Also at the show, there will be many different people to talk to for homeowners.
For example, Sharon McAleer of Kitchens Direct said she plans to bring samples of various products, including door and paint samples. “We have a cabinet line that has a lot of coastal colors and a nice coastal feel,” she said. “I’m hoping to let people know who we are and to get people to see our different styles.”
Whatever you are — builder, homeowner, interior decorator, gardener — there’s something for everyone at this year’s House and Garden Show, so come check out the digs.
