Crossing the pond aboard the S/V Tranquility
I've known Matt O'Hayer since 1969. I think we worked at Smugglers; a vague decade, kids. Matt, was an ambitious and excitable guy, who loved to mess around in boats then, and he loves to mess around in boats now. He was always a man with a plan. Getting the brand new, right out-of-the box Catamaran, Tranquility, ready for a trip from Cape Town to Barbados, Matt appealed to his friends for some books to read for the 5500 mile passage across the pond—ambitious stuff! John Spier, who went along for the ride, grabbed a copy of each of my books from Cindy at the Island Bound Bookstore, to flip to Matt and his crew. Hopefully, the books raised the crew's intellectual bar as high as the mast of the Cat—just joking—as these folks are all pretty bright characters.
John Spier was a good guy to have along for this trip. He has done extensive sailing in various multi-hulls, and really knows his stuff. John is a detail guy, when it comes to everything he does—especially his writing. This scribblogger, is looking forward to the details about Matt and his gang's wild sailing adventure across the Atlantic, aboard the S/V Tranquility. Keep an eye out for more about this boat and crew, in an upcoming issue of the Block Island Times.
