Christmas wreaths are up around town
Members of the Block Island Gardeners and friends completed the task of decorating 42 wreaths that have now been distributed at various locations around the island. The decorations included red ribbons, Christmas ornaments, pine cones and gold-painted clam shells.
The hanging of the wreaths is a bit earlier than previous years — the late date of Thanksgiving actually moved us ahead. At the same time the wreaths were being worked on, the National Hotel completed their traditional Christmas decorations.
Wreaths were distributed to Interstate Navigation, the B.I. Airport, Town Hall, the Island Free Library, the Police Station and Fire and Rescue, the Medical Center, Historical Society, the Community Center, Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Center, Rebecca’s statue and Esta’s Park. The Gardeners appreciated the financial contribution from the Tourism Council to assist in the purchase of the wreaths.
Participating folks included Ken and Gillian Moss, Cindy Baute, Emily Lindquist, Mary Sue Record, Anna Mullen, Paul and Sally Marte, Ken Maxwell, Nancy and Steve Robison, Don and Lydia Littlefield, Micheline Weisbroat and Fred and Muriel Nelson. — Fred Nelson
