Celebrate 'Where Beach Meets Ocean'

Aug 16, 2013

Scenic views? Creative company? Poetry and song?

The Block Island Poetry Project invites you to share all of these at “The Event in the Tent,” on Sunday, Aug. 18 from 6 to 7 p.m. at The Sullivan House.

Writers, including Rhode Island Poet Laureate Lisa Starr, and special guest James Stevenson, poet, author, illustrator, former cartoonist for The New Yorker, and op-ed columnist for The New York Times, will read from the Poetry Project’s 2013 anthology “Where Beach Meets Ocean.”

Virginia Dare, Jayme Hennessy, and the Block Island Singers (musical offspring of the Poetry Project) will provide musical interludes.

And, there may be a surprise guest or two.

For a donation of $25 or more, participants will receive a $22 copy of “Where Beach Meets Ocean,” refreshments provided by The Sullivan House, and an hour of poetry and song.

“Where Beach Meets Ocean” is a collection of writings developed during the past ten years as a result of workshops on Block Island with some of the world’s finest and best-loved poets, including Billy Collins, Naomi Shihab Nye, and Mary Oliver.
