Book your ferry now
If you’re looking to visit Block Island this summer and bring your car over on the ferry, now is the time to call and make a reservation.
Interstate Navigation, which operates the Block Island Ferry, began taking vehicle reservations on Monday, Jan. 6.
“We are open seven days a week for car reservations,” according to the Block Island Ferry’s website. “It is often less busy in the afternoon and on the weekends, when you can most likely reach us without too much difficulty. For further information, please call us at (866) 783-8663 ext. 3.”
For the schedule please visit blockislandferry.com/schedule/traditional.
Interstate requests the following information be provided: dates and times you would like to book, type of vehicle, credit card information for payment, a mailing address and an email address for sending confirmation.
“As in previous years, we had a full reservation staff ready on the first day. The phones rang incessantly from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.,” said Janette Centracchio, ticket office manager at Interstate. “Our volume was up a good amount from last year, not off the charts, but we certainly had more this year than last, which hopefully indicates a good season this summer.”
She added, “People have a tendency to call on the first days that we open for reservations. But there’s no day that’s completely sold out; it’s just the prime times that fill up the quickest.”
Centracchio said the most popular times are in July and August, midday. While these slots are booked quickly, she said there is usually space for vehicles available up to a week prior to the sailing date.
On Monday, The Block Island Times asked our Facebook fans if they booked their trips, and why they are excited to come to the island. Many commented that their excitement to visit is worth the wait on the phone.
“We are getting married there in May!! Couldn’t get through yesterday. Will try again today! Can’t wait,” said Gina Patricia.
“I made my reservation... after about an hour of trying,” said Sharon Sayler Magner. “We have a timeshare in August but go a few times before that. We love it, so relaxing.”
Heather Page said, “Angelina and I were only on hold for about 10 minutes! Excited to return to the beach.”
Carrie Belanger Rocha said, “Tried calling all day long with no luck, just busy signals, will try again tomorrow [Tuesday]. Love the island!”
Marianne Wentworth summed it up best: “Because it’s Block Island. What other reason do you need? Can’t wait!”
