Blockisland.com wins top honor
We may be new, but now we’re the best.
Blockisland.com was named Best Tourism Website in the Best of Rhode Island contest for 2014. The annual awards are sponsored by Rhode Island Monthly magazine.
In describing why they chose Blockisland.com as the best site in its category, the judges wrote:
“The coveted domain name, purchased in the 90’s, was semi-occupied until it’s owner found the right people to take it over; Betty and Fraser Lang, owners of The Block Island Times newspaper. They’ve populated the website with content so deep, you can tell it’s been decades in the making. Insider guides to the walking trails, restaurants and beaches sit alongside quirky delights like stories from a local fishmonger. It’s the definitive new B.I. tourist guide, and something more: a place to linger at any time of year, daydreaming about summer.”
The revamped site made its debut in early 2014 and traffic has grown from almost nothing to 40,000 visits per month, and it’s still growing.
Blockisland.com is powered on the AmgeePub platform from AMGCI, LLC, award-winning, cloud-based publishing platform for digital, mobile, and print. Design was by John Barry of Smallhouse.
Other sites produced by the Times include blockislandtimes.com and blockislanddiningguide.com.
