Block Island Times announces staff changes
In preparation for an enhanced presence in electronic media, The Block Island Times has announced staffing changes.
John Barry has been named Production and Electronic Media Manager. He will continue to work on production design of the weekly Block Island Times but devote more time to the Times’ two web sites, blockislandtimes.com and blockisland.com. The former features news from the weekly paper as well as blogs, comments and postings from island residents and businesses. Drawing more than 46,000 visits per month in 2013, blockislandtimes.com is a forum for the community, including a calendar of events, weather, ferry and plane schedules and telephone listings.
Blockisland.com, a new venture for the Times, draws on content from ancillary publications such as The Block Island Summer Times, Block Island Weddings and Block Dining. It is designed to provide a comprehensive collection of information for visitors, including listings of accommodations, dining, recreation, beaches, shopping, events and more.
Jonmathew Swienton has been hired as Advertising Design Assistant. Swienton is an island native and a graduate of Towson (MD) University with a degree in graphic design. He was previously a graphic designer for the Baltimore Orioles organization.
Shane Howrigan has been named as Director of Electronic Media Advertising. She will work with advertisers to build a presence on both web sites. Howrigan has been with the Times since 2003 and will continue as a sales representative for print advertising.
