Block Island Club schedule: July 1-7 and July 8-14
At the beginning of last week, the Block Island Club was busy getting ready for the July 4th parade. Every year the Club creates a float to fit the theme for the parade and, this year, the theme was “The world of Disney.” Ruby, an arts and crafts intern, explains, “We had a Peter Pan-themed float. It was Captain Hook’s ship, and kids got to dress up as characters from Peter Pan.” On Thursday night after the parade, the Club hosted a family barbeque.
The Club’s Adventure Camp, run by Pearson Treanor and Shane Baker, will take place every Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. to noon. Each week they have activities with the kids who sign up. For example, one week they went down to the dock and did water events and games.
Camp Mohegan also visits the Club every Wednesday. The Club Manager, Greg Pearson, said, “Kids from Camp Mohegan come up to the Club to sail. One of our instructors goes with the kids and directs them.” In addition, on Thursdays and Fridays, the children from the Early Learning Center come to the Club to use its facilities.
This upcoming week, Thursday night and Saturday morning sailing races will continue as usual. Camp Mohegan and the Early Learning Center will also be coming to the Club on their assigned days. Finally, on Thursday night, July 11, there will be a movie night at the Club for some of the older members.
