With the terms of three members expiring this year, the Block Island Health Services Board of Directors is turning to the community for possible nominees to those seats.

The Nominating Committee is looking specifically for people who have small business experience, internet and technical support experience or a background in finances, according to Board Chair Pam Hinthorn.

If you are interested or know someone who might be interested, you can pick up an application form at the reception desk at the Health Center, or get one from one of the members of the nominating committee: Elizabeth Connor, Mark Emmanuelle, Shannon Morgan, Cindy Baute or Pam Hinthorn. The deadline for applications is Friday, March 22.

The terms of Judy Cyronak, Pete Tweedy and Cynthia Baute are expiring. “Those three are all eligible to run again and if they give us their consent we’ll place them on the ballot,” said Hinthorn. Sitting members can be challenged, she added.

Individuals who have thrown their hat into the ring will be reviewed by the Nominating Committee at an open meeting the morning of March 25 (check the Block Island Times website or the front door of the Health Center for the specific time). For the first time, meetings of the Nominating Committee, as well as such other subcommittees as Fundraising and Membership, will be open to the public, according to Hinthorn.

The Nominating Committee will then forward all or some of those names to the full Board of Directors for consideration at their regularly scheduled meeting later that same day. The final slate of candidates will be emailed to the full membership of the BIHS, who will then vote. The names of the top vote getters will be revealed at the Annual Membership Meeting on June 9, 2013.

“All those who are committed to the long-term interests of BIHS, who are willing to be available to attend monthly meetings, participate in fundraising, and serve on committees should consider running for a board seat,” said Medical Center Executive Director Barbara Baldwin.

If people have questions or need additional information, they should contact Barbara Baldwin, at 466-2125.
