BIHS election results
At their June 9 annual meeting, membership chair Kay Lewis announced long-anticipated election results filling three slots on the Block Island Health Services board of directors, returning incumbents Cindy Baute and Pete Tweedy and bringing in a new board member, Dr. Al Casazza.
Six candidates vied for three posts as the terms of Baute, Tweedy and Judith Cyronak ended. Of the three, Cyronak did not seek re-election. Three other community members running to fill the openings were Ken Maxwell, Bruce Montgomery and Peter Saxon. Members could select up to three candidates.
Ballots were mailed on May 6, with a return date specified as June 7, 2013. Of the 706 eligible members contacted, 451 filled out and returned ballots, “a participation rate of 64 percent,” Lewis said.
A committee comprised of Executive Director Barbara Baldwin, board members Bob Fallon, Bill McCombe and Kay Lewis and voting member Rick Foreman counted the ballots.
Tweedy drew the highest count at 252, followed by Baute at 250 and Casazza with 247; Saxon pulled in 169, Montgomery 160 and Maxwell 159 votes.
At a regular board meeting following, the group elected the following officers: Fallon as president; Baute as vice president; Sue Hagedorn, Secretary and Tweedy, treasurer.
