Big Bass on Block Island

The fishing reports the past few days have been up and down but the common factor is the bass that are around are large.  Capt. Matt King reported some tough trips but the fish found were good ones - over 30lbs.  Capt. Chris Willi has had good fishing inside, close to shore, early in the morning - smaller fish but more of them.  As the sun rises, moving out to deeper water will get larger fish but fewer of them... quality over quantity.  Bluefish have lightened up a bit but are still around.  Monster porgy and seabass are still being caught on the South side rock piles.  August 1st marks the opening of Tautog (aka Blackfish), and there are some bigguns around Clayhead and Old Harbor Point.  Offshore reports should be filtering in - there was a pretty big fleet out Saturday night that had to run home fast as a 40x100mile thunderstorm ripped through the canyons.  The J&B Tri State Tuna Shootout next week there should be plenty of offshore action to report.
