A soldier in Afghanistan says 'Thank you, Block Island'
To the Editor:
Last November my mom, Joya Verde, and Virginia Dare, in a letter to the editor of The Block Island Times put out that my unit was in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and asked people to send care packages.
Well, care packages were sent, and lots of them. I wish I could sit down and write to everyone who took the time to put together these quality packages. Some were very generous. I was able to distribute the necessities and goodies to my soldiers across the battlefield as I traveled out to see them, and it made a real difference to my soldiers and those we support, as well as some of the local children.
As our time here gets short — less than a week — I want to express my gratitude and that of the people with whom I serve. Your support is valuable and very much appreciated. It does the soldiers’ morale wonders and makes a difference.
So, on behalf of the Soldiers of A Co., 101st Expeditionary Signal Battalion, New York Army National Guard, thank you and God Bless you.
