My Favorite Five

Out of all of the photos that I took for the paper over the past year, I figured picking out five of my favorites would be difficult. However, once I started filtering through past-issues of 2013, my choices came easy.

RED, WHITE AND YOU! — As the ferry unloaded this busy summer day, I was able to capture one family’s excitement, and love, as the island prepared for Fourth of July celebrations (Photo by: Kari Curtis)
UNBEARABLE ABSENCE — I was so happy to be able to take this photo of Dave Donnelly and his dog Bear, who went missing on the island for almost nine weeks over the summer. Island residents searched and kept watch for Bear until he was finally spotted and captured. A sigh of relief to all. (Photo by: Kari Curtis)
SMOOTH SAILING — I spent a day on the water in June to watch and capture some of the action in the Storm Trysail Club’s race around the island. More than 183 boats competed in the event. Although I would rather be on land than sea, this was a great photo assignment and a wonderful opportunity to see the island from a new perspective. (Photo by: Kari Curtis)
BON VOYAGE, SANDY! –—The entire staff and student body at the Block Island School posed for me this day in September surrounding Sandy, the elephant created out of driftwood by 2013 graduate Maddy Tretheway. I love this image of the year-round heart and soul of this community: island families. (Photo by: Kari Curtis)
